The Phillies have placed closer Brett Myers on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain. In 21 games (3 starts) this season, Myers is 1-2 with 6 saves, a 5.50 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. In 36 innings, he has allowed 35 hits, 18 walks and he’s whiffed 51 batters. Myers has been pretty good so far this season out of the bullpen and he will be hard to replace. Antonio Alfonseca will get the first shot to close until Myers is ready to return. Alfonseca is 2-1 with 1 save, a 4.57 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP so far this season. In 21.2 innings he has allowed 27 hits and walked 9 batters while whiffing 9. Look for Geoff Geary and Ryan Madson to get a shot at closing if Alfonseca falters.
