The Phillies won this game because of a big 8th inning in which they scored 4 runs due to homers by Shane Victorino and Matt Stairs and the bullpen made it stand up. Chase Utley had a solid game as he was 3 for 5 with a double and a RBI. Shane Victorino was outstanding again last night as he was 1 for 3 with a run scored, homer and 2 RBIs. Carlos Ruiz also had a solid game going 2 for 3 with a run scored. Joe Blanton started the game and he worked 5 innings allowing 7 hits, 3 earned runs, walking 4 batters and whiffing 4. Ryan Madson was the winning pitcher for the Phillies in this game as he worked 1.2 scoreless innings. J.C. Romero pitched 2/3 of a inning without giving up a run earning a hold in this game. Brad Lidge worked the final 1.1 innings in this game allowing 1 hit, whiffing 2 and earning the save. The Phillies are now up 3-1 in this series.

The Phillies just couldn’t muster much offense on Sunday Night and it did them in. Ryan Howard was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Howard was the only Phillies’ batter with more than one hit as the Phillies only had 7 of them. Jamie Moyer got punished by Dodgers’ hitters as he only lasted 1.1 innings allowing 6 hits, 6 earned runs and he whiffed 2 batters as he earned the loss. Clay Condrey, J.A. Happ, Scott Eyre, Chad Durbin and J.C. Romero all pitched well out of the bullpen for the Phillies in this game as they combined to work 6.2 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 earned run, walked 5 batters and whiffed 6. The Phillies are still up 2-1 in this series.

The Phillies were running up to the plate in the 2nd and 3rd innings when they battered Dodgers’ starting pitcher Chad Billingsley for four runs in each inning. Shane Victorino led the way for the Phillies in this game as he was 2 for 5 with a triple and 4 RBIs. Greg Dobbs also had a solid game going 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Catcher Carlos Ruiz was very productive yesterday afternoon as he went 1 for 4 with a double, 2 runs scored and a RBI. Brett Myers did most of his damage in this game with the bat in his hands as he was 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Myers worked the first 5 innings of this game allowing 6 hits, 5 earned runs, walked 4 batters and whiffed 6 earning the victory for the Phillies. Chad Durbin, J.C. Romero and Ryan Madson combined to work 3 shutout innings allowing 2 hits, 1 walk and whiffing 3 batters. Brad Lidge worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn another save but it was tad shaky as he walked 2 batters and whiffed 3. The Phillies are now up 2-0 in this series as it shifts to the West Coast.

The Phillies got off to a good start Thursday Night against the Dodgers as homers by Chase Utley and Pat Burrell made the strong pitching of Cole Hamels stand up in this game. Utley was 2 for 4 with 1 run scored, a homer and 2 RBIs in this game while Pat Burrell was 2 for 3 with 1 run scored, a homer and 1 RBI. Catcher Carlos Ruiz also had a good game with the bat for the Phillies as he was 2 for 3. Cole Hamels was outstanding in this game as he worked the first 7 innings allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs while walking only two batters and whiffing 8 to earn the win. Ryan Madson worked a scoreless 8th inning to protect the Phillies narrow lead and get it to closer Brad Lidge. Lidge earned the save working a scoreless 9th inning for the Phillies. The Phillies are now up 1-0 in this series.

Philadelphia Phillies 6, Milwaukee Brewers 2

The Phillies played long ball in this game cracking 4 homers on their way to victory. Jimmy Rollins led off the game with a homer as he finished 2 for 4 with a run scored and a RBI. Pat Burrell was the real star of this game for the Phillies as he was 3 for 4 with 2 runs, 2 homers and 4 RBIs. In the fourth inning outfielder Jayson Werth cracked a homer right after Burrell did to help send Jeff Suppan to the showers. Greg Dobbs also had a solid game going 2 for 3. Joe Blanton had a great start for the Phillies working the first 6 innings and allowing 5 hits, 1 earned run and he whiffed 7 batters to earn the victory. Brad Lidge worked a scoreless ninth inning to seal this victory. The Phillies defeat the Brewers 3 games to 1 and they will battle the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series starting on Thursday Night.
