The Philadelphia Phillies have signed 28-year old righty reliever Gary Majewski to a minor league contract. He pitched in 37 games (0 starts) for the Reds last season and he was 1-0 with a 6.53 ERA and a 1.90 WHIP. Majewski has now worked in 229 games (0 starts) in his major league career and he is 9-13 with 2 saves, a 4.61 ERA and a 1.58 WHIP. He has been injured the last couple of seasons but if he’s healthy this will be a steal for the Phillies.

The Phillies have signed 36-year old lefty swinging outfielder Raul Ibanez to a 3-year, $30 million dollar contract. He played in 162 games for the Mariners last season and he was 186 for 635 (.293 avg, .837 OPS) with 85 runs scored, 23 homers and 110 RBIs. He has now played in 1,384 games in his major league career and he is 1,370 for 4,791 (.286 avg, .818 OPS) with 695 runs scored, 182 homers and 794 RBIs. This is a good move for the Phillies as Ibanez is a really good hitter from the left side.

The Phillies have selected 24-year old righty starting pitcher Robert Mosebach in the Rule 5 Draft. Mosebach pitched in 29 games (all starts) in AA-ball last season and he was 9-12 with a 4.62 ERA and a 1.57 WHIP. He will have a very hard time breaking into the pitching staff of the defending World Series Champions.

The Phillies have signed 32-year old righty reliever Mike Koplove to a minor league contract. Koplove pitched in 41 games (0 starts) in AAA ball last season and he was 2-1 with 9 saves, a 3.46 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP. The sidearming righty last pitched in the majors in 2007 with the Cleveland Indians. Koplove has pitched in 222 games (0 starts) in his major league career and he is 15-7 with 2 saves, a 3.82 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. If nothing else Koplove will give the Phillies veteran depth at the AAA level but you shouldn’t be shocked if he makes the team out of spring training.
