The Phillies have placed righty reliever Tom Gordon on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation. Gordon has pitched in 34 games this season for the Phillies and he is 5-4 with 2 saves, a 5.16 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP. The Phillies have recalled 25-year old lefty reliever R.J. Swindle has pitched very well in the minors this season so it will be interesting to see if he can handle the majors. Swindle has pitched in 30 games (0 starts) in AA+AAA ball this season and he was 2-1 with a 1.52 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP. He also only allowed 29 hits while whiffing 50 batters in only 41.1 innings in the minors which shows he has nasty stuff. He has appeared in 1 game with the Phillies so far this season and he is 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA and a 1.67 WHIP.

The Phillies have placed outfielder Jayson Werth on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right abdominal muscle. He has played in 40 games this season for the Phillies and he is 34 for 131 (.260 avg, .857 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 9 homers, 26 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. The Phillies have called up outfielder T.J. Bohn to replace Werth on the roster. Bohn has played in 7 games for the Phillies this season and he is 1 for 3 (.333 avg) with 1 run scored and 2 RBIs. The Phillies will miss Werth’s bat as he was off to a great start this season.

The Phillies have placed outfielder Chris Snelling on the 15-day disabled list with left knee inflammation. This comes as no surprise as injuries have really hurt Snelling’s major league career to this point. Snelling has played in 3 games for the Phillies this season and he is 1 for 3 (.333 avg) with 1 run scored, 1 homer and 1 RBI. Snelling has been replaced on the active roster by 28-year old righty swinging T.J. Bohn. Bohn played in 13 games in AAA-ball so far this season and he was 8 for 42 (.190 avg, .475 OPS) with 2 runs scored. He also has whiffed 14 times in only 42 at bats in AAA, so don’t expect him to get much playing time with the Phillies.

The Philadelphia Phillies place Jimmy Rollins on the D.L.

The Phillies have placed starting shortstop Jimmy Rollins on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left ankle. Rollins has played in 12 games for the Phillies so far this season and he is 12 for 39 (.308 avg, .854 OPS) with 8 runs scored, 2 homers, 6 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. Rollins will be replaced in the starting lineup by Eric Bruntlett. Bruntlett has played in 13 games for the Phillies this season and he is 7 for 39 (.179 avg, .512 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 1 homer, 1 RBI and 1 stolen base. The Phillies have recalled 22-year old righty swinging Brad Harmon to replace Rollins on the roster. Harman has played in 16 games in AA-ball so far this season and he is 12 for 54 (.222 avg, .644 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 1 homer and 3 RBIs. This will hurt the Phillies offense big time as Rollins gets it all going from the leadoff spot.

The Philadelphia Phillies place Shane Victorino on the D.L.

The Phillies have placed starting CF Shane Victorino on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right calf. He has played in 12 games this season for the Phillies and he is 11 for 47 (.234 avg, .571 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 2 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Victorino will be replaced in CF by So Taguchi and Jayson Werth. Taguchi has played in 10 games this season for the Phillies and he is 2 for 9 (.222 avg, .666 OPS) with 3 runs scored and 1 RBI. Werth has played in 8 games for the Phillies this season and he is 8 for 19 (.421 avg, 1.277 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 1 homer, 5 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. The Phillies won’t likely miss Victorino’s bat….but neither Taguchi or Werth is in his league as a defender.
